When your best years are yester…

… the rest are twice as dear. —Pippin

I’ve never seen Pippin, but I heard this quote from Mike, a fellow microschool teacher I met at Canyon Grove Academy’s teacher training this week. Mike, who will be running a school in Tooele with his daughter, and I got to talking about aging. I’m 53, and he’s probably in his mid-60s. We both agreed that life feels even more precious now, and we’re grateful to be dedicating our energy to something as meaningful as teaching.

Exciting news—I attended this training because my school is officially full, and I’ve been hired by the charter school! Canyon Grove Academy has some incredible programs. They offer an Epic Day for homeschooled kids to join once a week and a Discovery/Innovations program that uses the campus’s gardens, animals, rock climbing wall, theater, space center, computer lab, and more. Unified Studies will be part of their Discovery days weekly. They’ve also taken over the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, which means Canyon Grove now has grades K-12 under their umbrella.

Yesterday, I enrolled my final three students, bringing the total to 16—seven girls and nine boys. I already know I’m going to love each of them, and I’m looking forward to the growth, the good times, and even the challenges ahead."
